The Shenzhen Science Fiction Film Industry Contests has come to a successful conclusion, igniting a new engine for the science fiction city

On September 24th, the highly anticipated second Shenzhen Science Fiction Film Industry Contests came to a successful conclusion at the Shenye Shangcheng Small Theater. This competition is one of the important activities of the 9th Shenzhen (International) Science and Technology Film and Television Week, aiming to explore and cultivate potential science fiction film and television projects as well as film and television industry enterprises, and promote the vigorous development of Shenzhen's science fiction film and television industry.

As the first professional competition in China focusing on science fiction film and television industrialization enterprises, the competition has attracted more than 50 outstanding teams or enterprises from domestic science fiction centers such as Shenzhen, Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Chongqing, etc. since its launch on July 25th, and has collected more than 50 young director video works. At yesterday's event, 27 shortlisted companies and director projects participated in the roadshow and exhibition of their works. Roadshow companies include those from IP development, physical effects, VR large space, cloud rendering, special prop production, science fiction derivatives, virtual shooting, film and television playback and distribution systems, and other sub fields. Science fiction director projects include movies, animations, games, and other forms, involving themes such as space adventure, folk science fiction, and future civilization, which can be described as exciting and diverse.

The final judging panel of this competition is composed of Wang Jiaren, Deputy Director of the Science and Film Integration Special Committee of the China Science Popularization Writers Association, Yu Yana, Deputy General Manager of Langke Technology, Chu Yuchen, Production Director of Shenzhen Film Studio Co., Ltd., Guo Haitao, a film and television professional teacher and screenwriter director at Shenzhen University, and other well-known experts in the industry. They conduct comprehensive evaluations of projects from multiple dimensions, and all participating projects present their best performance on site. The competition is fierce, and the Q&A is lively and interesting.

In recent years, the science fiction industry in Shenzhen has developed rapidly, with a group of excellent enterprises and talents emerging. The successful hosting of this competition further highlights Shenzhen's position as an innovation hub in the science fiction industry. The relevant person in charge of the Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology stated that they will continue to support the development of the science fiction industry and provide a broader stage for science fiction practitioners.

Shenzhen is a natural fertile ground for the development of science fiction industry. Although the development started relatively late, the foundation is solid. Last year, Shenzhen writer Hai Yan became the third Chinese science fiction writer to win the Hugo Award, the most prestigious award in the world of science fiction literature, with his work "The Time and Space Painter", winning international reputation for Shenzhen's science fiction literature creation. In the China Science Fiction City Index, Shenzhen has ranked fourth in the country for two consecutive times. The local science fiction incubation platform, Science & Fantasy Growth Foundation, also won the Science Fiction Planet Award for Outstanding Contribution at this year's China Science Fiction Conference for its long-term support of the domestic science fiction industry.

As the first professional competition in China to focus on science fiction film and television industrialization enterprises, the Shenzhen Science Fiction Film Industry Contests focuses on promoting the development process of film and television engineering and industrialization, comprehensively showcasing the power behind Shenzhen's film and television industrialization. At the same time, by organizing the competition, we will comprehensively sort out the industrial chain of Shenzhen's science fiction film and television industry, attract more outstanding domestic film and television industry upstream and downstream enterprises to settle in Shenzhen, promote the formation of a complete industrial chain system integrating research and development, production, distribution, and exhibition, and inject new strong impetus into the development of Shenzhen and even China's film and television industry.
